More About Safaris to Zambia

Set in the South of Zambia and on the border with Zimbabwe is the famed Victoria Falls. Locally known as Mosi-oa-Tunya or the “Smoke That Thunders’, Victoria Falls is a true spectacle spanning 1700m and plummeting over 108m into the Batoka Gorge below. The small and quaint town of Livingstone is the gateway to Victoria Falls from Zambia with a variety of beautifully created luxury lodges set on the banks of the Zambezi River, waiting to welcome you to their piece of paradise.

Heading north from Livingstone via a relatively short flight is Kafue National Park – an impressive 22,000 square kilometre national park teaming with wildlife. In the north of the park, the Busanga Plains is best known for its predator sightings and abundant plains game. In the remote south of the park, elephants and a variety of antelopes roam the Nanzhila Plains, while hippos swim in the waters of Lake Itezhi-Tezhi.

Follow the Zambezi River from Victoria Falls and you will find the Lower Zambezi National Park. With the Zambezi River in the foreground and the Zambezi Escarpment as the backdrop, you will be hard pressed to find a safari location as dramatic as this. The region is famous for its canoe safaris on the Zambezi River which will have you enjoying up close encounters with elephants and other big game as they head down to the water’s edge to drink. Take a break from the canoeing and enjoy exhilarating game drives throughout the park from a variety of intimate safari lodges.

If a guided walking safari is what you are after, then the South Luangwa National Park is where you need to go. Most of the parks lodges and remote safari camps are located on the Luangwa River and offer a variety of activities including game drives and of course guided walking safaris. A large portion of the South Luangwa remains untouched which gives the park its distinct wild and untamed feel.
